While the non-stick cookware has been getting special attention lately for the use of PFTE and the cessation of its use, many people have forgotten about one of the first environmentally friendly materials used in cookware, glass. Glass is an amazing material in and of itself. It is made predominantly from sand; more specifically silicates found in sand. It has the great advantage of being made of the Earth and so it is easily returned to the Earth.
Tempered glass is even better because it is shatter resistant, but don't go throwing it against a wall and expect it not to break, and can be used in the oven, freezer, refrigerator, and microwave. This simplifies your cooking life and adds no harmful chemicals to your food. Cleaning is a snap as almost all glass cookware on the market is dishwasher safe; in fact you would have to look hard and long to find a glass piece of cookware that cannot go into the dishwasher.

Once the gals dish has been used for a lifetime it can be easily recycled into more glass cookware, windshields, drinking glasses or anything else. Glass has a fairly good heat transfer rate and for its price you should have several glass baking and cooking dishes at your disposal at all times. Not to mention that virtually any recipe can be prepared in a glass dish from cakes to pasta and from roasts to soufflés. Glass cookware also allows the chef or cook to see the progress without opening the dish letting the heat escape. When was the last time you looked into meat roaster without lifting off the lid?
